Shadows House 2nd Season

Shadows House premiered in April last year, and despite minimal fanfare is receiving a second season this July. The manga that the anime is adapted from is still serializing in Shounen Jump and has collected ten volumes so far. Despite that, little is said online about the grim and mysterious first season. The franchise of Shadows House is a gothic supernatural seinen series about a family of nobles who are pitch-black and emit soot. Known as the Shadows, they assign a Living Doll to their family members as they come of age. These Living Dolls act as both their servant and their face, being able to express emotions that the nobles can not. The main story follows Emilico, whose cheerful demeanor is a stark contrast to the dreary manor and the dark mysteries she begins to unravel.

Shadows House 2nd Season

The first season adapted the first three and a half volumes of the manga, with some changes to events in the source material within its thirteen episodes. Despite these changes, the anime itself was still well received and at the time of writing this article has a 7.75 out of 10 rating out of over 65,000 users on MyAnimeList. The real question is whether it is worth watching before the second season comes out next month. Especially in the well-known cases of Tokyo Ghoul and The Promised Neverland, they had stellar first seasons adapted from their manga that had amassed large fan bases, just to ignore the source material for their own narratives in their second season and disappoint their followers. In this article, we will explore whether Shadows House will follow the same curse.

Although history has shown that deviating from the source material can have disastrous consequences, however, someone who is not concerned is the author of the original manga herself. Not only was she consulted for the changes and even the anime-only ending, but she explains it was done as the anime originally was only intended to have one season.

She confirms in the tweet below as well as other tweets contained in the thread what was said above, as well as confirming she will help connect everything back to the original story if there ever was a second season. This tweet was made before the second season was confirmed, however.

Although the tweet is in Japanese, multiple Twitter accounts have translated the tweet in the replies for English speakers. The author herself is okay with the alternate ending, especially since she was tasked with writing it herself. And in the tweet above specifically, she promises to connect everything back to the manga's plot if there was ever to be another season; now that it's confirmed, we can assume she would keep her word so that the studio could continue to adapt her well-loved manga series as it was originally intended.

When it comes to seasonal anime, many come and go without being noticed. However, this anime doesn't deserve to be forgotten. Even if the second season does fall victim to an awful second season, the first season was altered to have a contained story within the first season and is enjoyable completely on its own. Showcased in a hauntingly beautiful setting, Shadows House is a perfect weekend binge for those looking to break out from your typical seasonal anime.

The anime series Shadows House premiered in April 2021 to immense acclaim. The show tells the story of a dark mansion filled with people attended by Living Doll partners. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, serves her mistress Kate, and as the two grow closer, a number of dark secrets begin to emerge. The second season will begin airing in July 2022, and a new teaser visual and cast comments have been released.

Shadows House has teased a new key visual for its upcoming second season, along with news that it will debut in July 2022. CloverWorks is returning to produce the supernatural gothic series.

Kazuki Ohashi (Horimiya Ep 3 storyboarder) served as director for season 1. Toshiya Ono (86 EIGHTY SIX) was the series script composer while Chizuko Kusakabe (SHIROBAKO The Movie animation director) handled character designs. Hirofumi Sakagami (MARS RED co-art director) and Chihiro Gotou (MARS RED assistant art director) served as art directors. Sachiko Urushido (Fairy Ranmaru) was the color designer, Yoshiki Obata (HELLO WORLD) worked as photography director, and Katsuaki Miyaji (Wonder Egg Priority CG director) served as 3D director. Kisuke Koizumi (The Dungeon of Black Company) was the music composer.

As previously noted, Shadows House has not yet been publicly renewed for season 3; however, there are several factors that will give hope to fans that the anime series will continue into a third broadcast.

The good news for fans of the series is that, as of September 2022, a total of 11 chapters consisting of 124 chapters have been published in Japan. This indicates that there is enough source material for at least one more anime season of Shadows House, certainly after another one or two volumes are published by Q1 2023.

As Shadows House season 3 has yet to be publicly renewed, there remains no confirmed information regarding a potential release slate. However, we can make some early predictions based on the production cycles of seasons 1 and 2 respectively.

This means that by all accounts, the popular animation studio will likely be free to work on Shadows House season 3 by the Summer of 2023; if My Dress-Up Darling and Spy x Family take priority as expected, this should push Shadows House season 3 into an October 2023 launch window.

High atop a cliff sits the mansion known as Shadows House, home to a faceless clan that pretends to live like nobles. They express their emotions through living dolls that also endlessly clean the home of soot. One such servant, Emilico, aids her master Kate as they learn more about themselves and the mysteries of the house.

The Shadows House anime is handled by Studio CloverWorks, who just did Akebi chan's Sailor Uniform and My Dress-up Darling this Winter 2022 season. The studio has a pretty nice reputation these days, especially after these two shows, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle this Season 2. Especially when it comes to the scenario.

The 2nd season of Shadows House will be released in July 2022. Judging by the trailer, it looks like Season 2 will go back to the manga's story. Either way, you can find the trailer below, narrated by Kate (Akari Kitō) and Emilyko (Yū Sasahara).

What are your thoughts on the first season of Shadows House, and are you hyped for the second season? Let me know in the comments below. You can also start reading the Shadows House manga officially as it just got licensed in the US by Yen Press. For now, only a few chapters were released, while the series has 10 volumes out in Japan.

Shadows House is one of the hidden gems of the 2021 anime season, a delightfully spooky yet heartwarming ride through the world of the noble Shadows and their Living Dolls that gained a loyal following but not quite as much attention as it really deserved. Now Season 2 is coming down the pike, giving viewers another chance to discover the many mysteries of this new series.

Loosely based on the manga of the same name, Shadows House has aspects of fairy tale, allegory, and Victorian gothic drama in the mix. In the first season, we are introduced to cheerful and kindhearted Emilico, who has just been assigned as a special personal servant known as a Living Doll to the highborn girl Kate. Kate and her fellow nobility are Shadows: people who constantly emit soot from their bodies, and who consequently appear completely black and faceless. Therefore, each relies on their Living Doll in order to interact with the world. Although Kate and Emilico quickly grow to trust and value each other, other Dolls are treated with less kindness, slowly being trained to relinquish their individuality until only the Shadow remains. Emilico, Kate, and their friends begin to grow a spirit of revolution between them, but their power remains limited and the mysteries and dangers of Shadows House loom ever larger.

There is a Blu-ray set for the first season of Shadows House, available for preorder directly from the Crunchyroll store. If Season 2 gets enough attention, it should receive the same treatment and get a Blu-ray release sometime next year.
